History

It's been a few days since I watched the series, but the History channel did a miniseries called Hatfields and McCoys. History has always been something that intrigued me, but this story really sparked an interest in me. Maybe because it's a story about the south, I'm not sure. I think what was the most compelling was how these two families became so bitter towards each other, not without good reason I guess, but I want to know the real story. At what moment did the vendetta truly begin? What was the point of no return, when forgiveness and turning the other cheek was no longer in question? In what ways were the families different, but in what ways were they similar? What happened to the kind of loyalty in the younger family members that made them believe that they had no other choice but to continue the feud their relatives began? Is it better or worse that adolescents have grown to be more independent of their parents' values? There are a lot of questions that may never get answered. This is the kind of story that seems like it was a piece of literature from time past, when actually it was real life. They were real people that walked on the earth just like we do. They ate food and breathed the air just like we do. What separates us from them other than time? We can learn that our actions have consequences and do not only affect us. We can learn to stand up for what we know is right in spite of what others are doing. History teaches us to be better people based on what others have done before us, good or bad. Learning about the past is the key to understanding how to achieve a successful future.

Another Year

Junior year is over, and here I sit on the verge of summer with not much before me except the possibility of something new. It's a weird stage in life and I can't believe that it's almost over. When I was at the library studying for finals I saw the guy that I sat behind in History fall freshman year. It was like a reality check that I wasn't sure what it meant. It was just weird how it stopped time, but also sped up in the same moment. I don't even know the guy's name, but in that minute it was like I time traveled or something. Anyway, enough of the sappy stuff. I'm so happy it's summer and have a lot of expectations that I hope to fill you in on as I go. See you then!

Present

I always want to be honest with the people that I'm closest to. If you feel like you have to hide something then obviously somewhere deep down you are either ashamed of it or know that it's wrong. If we can't open up to the people that know us the best and love us the most, then who can we share our souls with? I think there's something to be said about discretion, but we were made to walk beside each other in this life and take on each others burdens and happiness. I want to be with the people that are in the present, live in the here and now, not tucked away in technology, more interested in what the latest social network says or can't let their phone out of their grip for more than five minutes. One might think that me blogging all these things is kind of counter intuitive to this, but really I just need to vent, and then I'll move on. I'm just tired of being taken for granted and ignored. I know I can be guilty of all of these things, so this is just a reminder to myself to not forget how I feel at this exact moment so that I will remember to never make anyone feel this way in the future.

In Remembrance

How do we want to be remembered? As someone who made a difference in others' lives by showing them the love of God in our actions, or someone who sat idly by and let people make up their minds about who they thought you were. On a day like today, there is no question that life can change pretty quickly, and you may be one of the lucky ones, or you may not. So the question is, what are you going to do to be remembered? If you are even remembered at all. There is a time for everything, and the time is now to be living life in a meaningful way that will impact the future. We should consciously make an effort to factor in our eternity into every single thing we do. We can make a difference because we have the power of God in our lives. We don't have to be forgotten with nothing significant to say about the life we lived when it is over. We can accomplish more than our minds can even fathom if we just listen to what He has to say. When we trust in the Lord, our lives will have a purpose, and with faith that God is in control, we can do the amazing things He has planned. It may seem like nothing is happening in your life and you may feel like you're in the limbo of day to day routines, but God is always building and molding you as His workmanship to carry out His will for your life. It's not something that our eyes can see every day, or something that our hearts will always notice, but one day they will. And that day, that it all comes together to make sense, of what this whole life has meant, that is the day I'm living for.

I'll Never Let Go

This weekend I'm in Auburn holding down the fort while the roommates are away. But it also marks a huge weekend in my books. Tonight I went to see my favorite movie of all time re-released in 3D. By the title of this post you probably already guessed that it was Titanic. It took me a while to even decide that it was my absolute favorite, but now I am positive of this decision. There's a reason it won 11 Oscars! And in 3D, wow! I was in first grade when it originally came out, was I too young to see it? Maybe, but I ended up seeing it four times before it left the theaters. And my little heart has never stopped beating for Leo since. It's so much more than just that though. He helps her live, and not just physically. She is trapped by what the world says she should do and what she thinks she has to do, but he goes against anything she's ever known. He frees her from herself. It's a beautiful movie all the way through with every story. The movie accomplishes making you believe that what you're seeing is real, even though it's mostly computer generated images. The fact is though, that it really did happen, it's real history. There are many stories we'll never know that lie at the bottom of the ocean. I could go on forever about how much it means to me in so many different ways. One thing on my bucket list is to actually visit the wreckage, we'll see how long that will take before it happens. Another reason this was such a big thing was that I went by myself. I've never been to a movie by myself, but everyone went home this weekend and I wasn't willing to wait any longer to see the movie. It was an exhilarating and exciting experience, I'm not sure why. I don't think I'll be doing it regularly, but it was nice to know that it can be done. So with all this said, it was a great start to my weekend that will now only consist of studying. And maybe some breaks, but who knows?

Long time no see!

I haven't posted in a loong time! Mostly because I'm busy, but also because I spend most of my free time on the computer on pinterest. I'll be honest here. The fact that next week is spring break is blowing my mind! This semester has gone by so fast, and before I know it, it will be my senior year of college! Yikes! I guess time does fly when you're having fun, and Auburn is definitely a lot of fun. Hopefully I'll find some more time to post ransom musings and fun facts about life though.

Cheers!

Yesterday was my twenty-first birthday, yeah that's right, 21! Whoa! It was a great day. The weather was cold and gloomy, and I spent most of the day studying for my physics test that I had this morning, but in spite of all this I was in a great mood. I think a few things could have contributed to this. a) Listening to my Christmas station on Pandora, b) Striving to live with the intensity of Sophia Grace, c) Another movie to add to a growing list of things to see, d) A trip to Chill and Walmart with Emily, Lauren, and Nicole, or e) all of the above. For a true to life account of my last minutes as a twenty year old, we watched Mean Girls, and I was going to go to bed, but Lauren and Nicole encouraged me to live my last 17 minutes being 20 on the edge. So I stayed up, Nicole and I played Dancing Queen and Mamma Mia on my new ABBA dance game I got for my birthday, and then midnight hit, and I began the rest of my adult life. TO bring in my new year, I took a shot of coconut rum that I got from Sally and celebrated for a few more minutes before calling it a night. And that's all I got to say about that. Here's to all the people in my life that have given me the best experiences and memories, and to God for blessing me beyond measure these past 21 years and to many more!
